Asphalt Shingles
The most popular type of shingle today is the
asphalt shingle. This is because they are easy to install, relatively
cheap compared to other styles and durable. There are 2 basic kinds of
asphalt shingles.
Three-Tab Shingles
Three Tab shingles have 2 layers of asphalt
surrounding a fiberglass core. They are also covered with mineral granules
and are notched into three pieces or tabs. They are the roofing industries
standard shingle.
Laminate Shingles
Laminate shingles are made by bonding 2
asphalt shingles together. This gives them more of a 3d shape and allows
them to mimic slate, wood and other roof tiles. Because of the extra
weight and rigidity, they are also more resistant to wind damage.
